You’ve got questions, that’s only natural! Here, I’ll answer the most frequently asked questions I get - if you like what you hear, or I haven’t answered your question, let’s have a chat!

What is your style?

I am what’s known in ‘the business’ as a candid, or documentary style, photographer. This means that I blend into your day - I don’t show up in a t-shirt and jeans, I dress for the occasion and become ‘one of the crowd,’ apart from the cameras that are a bit of a giveaway! I capture moments in time between you and your loved ones as these really show the story of your day and the connection that you have with everyone you love. I try to be as unobtrusive as possible and go unnoticed - that way, you and your guests are your real selves rather than aware there’s a photographer around! During portraits, I’ll get the best out of you as a couple, those shots that show your personalities are always the best - if I feel you need some direction, I’ll jump in and give some pointers, but the best photos are always those that are just that moment. With my friendly, laid back nature, I’m sure we’ll get along like a house on fire and you’ll be relaxed!

Should I get a second photographer?

This isn’t a must but, honestly, I’d recommend it. It’s completely down to you, though - one photographer may well be perfect to get your day fully covered, but I’m just one man! Having a second photographer means that there’s another set of eyes and another camera to go around and get other angles and other moments that would otherwise be missed. I have often worked with my wife, Sarah, who is an absolute natural and a dream to work with - she’s so good with working with couples it puts me to shame! It’s totally worth the extra expense as the photos from a second photographer add more priceless memories and moments to your album.

Why do we need a contract? Do you have insurance?

As with any service, you need to formalise it so that, if the wheel comes off, both you and I are protected by the contract. This is an agreement between you and me that sets out what I’ll do, what you can expect, and any caveats that protect all of us - we are entering into an agreement, after all!

I am fully insured for public liability and all manner of events right up to total catastrophic failure of equipment - this is why I always bring extra cameras, as well!

If any of your vendors do not have a contract or proof of insurance - DO NOT HIRE THEM. This is sage advice learned the hard way over time!

We’ve paid our deposit but now have to cancel. Can we get that back?

The short answer is ‘no,’ the £500 deposit to secure the date means that I am working for you on that date and have declined other bookings in favour of your date. I can’t simply just organise another wedding on that date as, if I go back to someone I previously said ‘no’ to in favour of your date, then they may well have already booked someone else!

Further, if you are cancelling within a certain time frame, I will have no choice but to remind you of the contract in which there are fees applicable - if you’re cancelling within 3 months of your wedding, an extra fee of £200 is required (£400 if you booked a second photographer) as there is a small chance I’ll be able to find another wedding, 2 months’ cancellation notice is £500 (£700 if you booked a second photographer) fee, as there is really not much chance of another wedding coming along, and cancellation after that point is charged at the full amount left on the account.

What’s your background?

I started photography when I was 17 - my dad gave me an old camera and I just fell in love with taking it out and photographing all my friends and moments! I then, at university, founded the Photography Society, running classes and events for budding photographers and creating ties with the university to offer work to society members. During my university years, I cut my teeth as an events photographer by joining a nightlife and events photography company - I became an award winning photographer and, through my talents, got to go all over Europe to photograph events, festivals, gigs, DJs and more. After uni, I became a member of the senior management of a nationwide events and photography business, before going fully solo. I’ve had my photography used by the likes of Topman, Topshop, and Lonely Planet just to name a few.

Do you back up photos?

I backup everything in three different places - on physical media and in ‘the cloud.’

All RAW image files are kept for two years after the wedding and then deleted. For clarity - a single photo I take is just shy of 50mb, so you can imagine how much storage space I need when I’m shooting thousands of photos per wedding!

Do you do weddings abroad or at other destinations?

Yes! I have worked all across the UK from Devon to Scotland and as far as Australia!

I hold dual nationality and have two passports - British and German. York isn’t the only place I work, I can hop over to your destination wedding in the EU and beyond with no issue. I absolutely love travelling, I started school in Malaysia, so it’s safe to say it’s in my blood!

We can discuss destination weddings - just send me a message!
